AU Sorority Sisters Star in “We’re Going to a Party”

The next time you see Howard Perlmuter on campus, you may also see his name on Billboard’s top 40 chart.
Howard “Perl” Perlmuter, an Ashland University student from 1991 – 1993, plans on returning to AU next fall after taking a year off to finish his first solo album. “As of right now I plan to be back at AU next fall”, said Perlmuter.
Perlmuter’s experiences in the music industry result from a life-long interest in the business. Since the age of 12, he has owned and operated his own portable entertainment company in which he did disc jockey work for various shows, private parties, and on Cleveland radio stations like WWWE and WDOK.
“I have been writing songs as far back as I can remember, and luckily I had connections with people in the business” said Perlmuter. About three years ago, Perlmuter was a member group More Points Scored (MPS), whose release sold in 14 cities across the nation. This year, Perimuter will go solo after 14 months of professional work and dedication. His album, which is still untitled at this point, will be released sometime in mid-summer. “My songs are on an R & B, rap, Hip-Hop tip”, said Perlmuter. “They are all very commercial, top 40 material.”
One of the songs, “We’re Going to a Party” features several Alpha Delta Pi’s from AU, who recorded the song with Perlmuter at a recording studio in Cleveland Amy Hills, Melissa Linn, Kristi Paull, Megan Wagenbrenner, and Melissa Zartman also got to go shopping, go out to dinner, and go to the flats in a black stretch limo with Eddie Murphy’s cousin, Howard Murphy, who is also one of Perlmuter’s producers.
“All I kept saying that night was ‘This is not my life.” said Hills.
Although Perl Productions has thus far funded Perl’s album, other recording labels are very interested in signing Perl. “We can’t officially say anything about who we are signing with because negotiations are still under way,” said Perlmuter.
While working on his own project, Perlmuter has had the opportunity to work and hang out with artists like: Janet Jackson, Nine Inch Nails, and R. Kelly. “The public certainly worships stars like Janet Jackson, but most of them are really down to earth people,” said Perlmuter.
Another highlight of Perlmuter’s year was when he and one of his partners, Lee Mars, went to Washington to do sound work on the South Lawn of the White House for an international concert festival.
Contingent on his time and success, Perlmuter does plan on returning to AU to finish his BSBA. He also plans on returning to his fraternity, Phi Kappa Psi, which he left as Corresponding Secretary.
Until then, Perlmuter will continue touring the country, doing promotions on radio and at clubs, and taking photo shoots for publicity and posters.
He will be shooting his first music video this summer, as soon as his producers decide on the first single to be released off the new record.
