Most people begin their careers after college, but one AU freshmen has a head start. Howard Pearlmu-ter, a radio/television major from Pepper Pike, has been a disc jockey for six years.
Pearlmuter, or DJ Pearl as he is known on WRDL FM, was featured in a Plain Dealer article which highlighted his career as a rap music artist.
On June 17, Pearlmuter’s self-pro-duced rap album was released. The record contains over 60 samples, including such artists as the “Beastie Boys.”
The album was released, according to Pearlmuter, to get him noticed in the industry. Pearlmuter chose rap music because of the creativity it al-lows.
Pearlmuter realizes that it is difficult to break into the recording in-dustry.
“There will always be someone who is not going to like your music or someone who is not going to like you,”
Pearlmuter plans to release a follow up album with more rhythm and blues selections on it in 1992.
Pearlmuter decided to attend
school in Ashland mainly because it is close to his home, but he also likes the small size of the university.
